DUBLIN Fire Brigade have issued a major warning to punters across Ireland – and told how best to charge phones.

Leaving your phone under your pillow at night while charging is a common mistake made by millions of phone users – but it could be deadly.

Dublin Fire Brigade took to X, formerly Twitter, to share a terrifying photo of a burned Apple phone charger.

The pins have been ripped straight off the charging plug, and the wall socket was left blackened after a shock electric blast.

The concerned Fire Brigade captioned the pictures: “How do you charge?

“Using a genuine charger is the safest option.

“Never charge overnight and never leave your phone on your bed whilst charging.”

The organisation emphasised using a real Apple charger, and keeping a charging phone away form your bed.

Punters took to the comments to weigh in on the discussion.

One user commented: “I take it that charger is not a genuine one. It’s scary regardless, but even more so if genuine.

“Those wires are ridiculously thin.”

Phones that have been left charging for too long have been known to overheat, and cause damage to the charger, socket, and even the phone itself.

And in September of 2023, Apple issued a major warning to iPhone users.

They urged people not to charge iPhones overnight, and stressed that phones on charge should never be left under a pillow while you sleep.

The PSA warned that charging and sleeping could lead to “fire, electric shock, damage to the iPhone or other property.”

TikTok user @niickjackson broke down the announcement in a helpful video to followers.

He said: “If you charge this phone while you sleep, you need to watch this video.

“A bunch of people are really upset with Apple because they basically just came out with a huge emergency warning to everybody that owns an iPhone.

“They’re saying that people are charging their phones incorrectly and they’re plugging it up overnight, leaving it under a blanket or a pillow or sleeping on it.

“A lot of people have commented saying that their phone overheats overnight and they wake up with it burning their skin.

“The gist of this whole article is basically avoid putting your phone under anything while you sleep and they recommend to not buy any third party chargers.”
