THE benefits of a good night sleep can never be overstated, with not getting enough kip linked to various health issues like diabetes, heart disease and dementia.
And our environment can have a huge impact on the quality of our sleep, which is why most Brits take pride in their bedroom.

It’s also the reason thousands of people have different duvets for winter and summer.
Reducing the tog during warmer months will help you settle into and maintain sleep throughout the night as it keeps you cooler.
But what if you don’t know exactly when to swap out your toasty winter duvet for a lighter version?
Thankfully James Higgins, CEO of Ethical Bedding, has the answer.
“When we looked into the data, there were a few factors that made it visibly clear when could be a good time to look at switching out your duvet tog,” he said.
“From a winter thickness of 10.5 to 15 togs to a summer thickness of around five to seven togs.
“Firstly, monitoring trends of temperatures at midnight in spring for the last five years, we observed a significant temperature increase happening in the second week of May.
“Furthermore, examining the daily breakdown of May’s temperature at midnight, we worked out that May 9 is the average date which had consistently recurring higher temperatures above 10 degrees Celsius in the days that followed.”
That means May 9 is the best day to get your spring duvet out of the cupboard.
Or you could do it a day earlier if you like to be ahead of curve.
“In the height of summer, when the weather becomes almost unbearable and the evenings turn clammy and uncomfortable, you might consider exchanging your regular duvet for one that offers a cooler sleep,” James continued.
“Otherwise, you risk spending the entire night awake, feeling sweaty and struggling to fall asleep.
“Opt for a summer tog duvet with a rating of four and a half or less, which combats the high temperatures by allowing body heat to escape as you sleep.
“If the weather isn’t quite so warm, a duvet rated between seven to nine tog may be more suitable.
“Bamboo duvets are an excellent choice for any season.
“They are breathable and comfortable, and each bamboo-filled duvet is also resistant to dust mites and mould, making them ideal if you’re in search of hypoallergenic bedding,” he told The Mirror.

Many of us love a cuppa before we turn in for the night, but this could be disrupting the quality of our sleep.
“To avoid messing up your sleeping pattern, avoid any caffeine after 3pm including coffee, fizzy drinks, energy drinks and even tea,” Dr Deborah Lee, Get Laid Beds’ resident Sleep Expert, said.
“Try switching to herbal teas if you need a hot drink to stay warm, or decaf to trick yourself into thinking you’re getting your caffeine fix.
“Your sleep schedule will thank you!”
